Patricia O’Connor is a nurse practitioner board certified in hospice and palliative medicine and adult medicine. She was head nurse of the Connecticut Hospice for its inaugural 6 years as the first free-standing hospice in the United States. She had the privilege of training with founders of the hospice and palliative care movements. She went on to work in community hospice care until earning her master’s degree in nursing. After earning her master’s degree, she spent 20 years as a primary care nurse practitioner. During these years, she had a sub-specialty of hospice/palliative doing teaching and consultations. She then moved to New Hampshire and joined a newly formed specialty palliative care team. Pat’s professional life has focused on empowering people to take control of their own health and living a life best suited to who they are. She is passionate about helping people to obtain as much clarity as they desire in matters concerning their health and the health of their loved ones. With this information and education about risks and benefits of options available, they can choose to make their way through the medical maze blazing their own path. Personally, Pat enjoys her life with her husband, Tom, in their home in New Hampshire where hiking, photography, gardening, kayaking, camping, swimming, reading, writing, blogging and even flying with Tom fill their lives along with precious time spent with family and friends!!
